Does anyone know or think if Matilda will have rush or lottery tickets? Hoping they do! Thanks!

Often we don't find out until previews begin. Has the box office even opened yet? I don't think we've ever heard before that happens.

What's the show curtain like? Does The Chokey sign after the show?

It the picture I've seen was indeed the pre-show set up, the show doesn't have a traditional curtain. The set surrounding the stage is absolutely incredible. It is made up many "Scrabble-like" letter tiles. On the stage, there are 7 illuminated tiles that appear to float in the air, with each tile having a letter of MATILDA, thus spelling out the show name. The entire stage is pretty much visible, with only those 7 tiles being onstage suspended at various heights in the air.

Here is a link to the picture of the stage, just scroll down to the second picture:

*SPOILER ALERT*

The RSC only do day seats for those under 25. Here in the UK they're £5 each, and they release 8 a day at 10am.

People start queueing at 5am.

BUMP

How is the line looking? My roommate is leaving at 6AM to line up for tomorrow's performance. I thought this was a little much, but not sure. Any ideas?

6AM seems about right.

I tried rushing Mondya morning, got in line at around 7:10, there were 9 people in front of me. The people in front of me were the last people to get rush tickets. It should be noted, though, that at about 9:15 a group of two at the front of the line became a group of 4, no one said anything to them because they had told someone they were only getting 4 tickets. However, when the box office opened, they bought 7 of the 15 tickets available.

So I tried again Tuesday, got in line around 6:50, I was 12th in line. They sold 5 rush tickets.

I went back later in the day and spoke to one of the box office staff members and she was very polite and explained that the staff has no idea where/how many/if rush tickets will be sold until they get in front of the computer in the morning. She said that generally the rush tickets have been the partial view orchestra seats but there have been a couple rear mezz seats. My next question was does that mean if I can't pull up any partial view orchestra seats on Telecharge for the performance should I even bother and she said she'd be inclined to say no, but that it might be worthwhile to still try because they really have no idea. She said the whole rush policy is a learning experience everyday, they initially weren't going to have any policy at all and then they were suddenly thrown one and are working out the best way to go about handling their policy.

Just putting this out there:
People started lining up yesterday at 6am, by 10, a line of near 100 people had amassed down Shubert Alley.

They sold 5 tickets.

This morning people started lining up at 5am.

They sold zero tickets.

Hopefully after opening something is settled, or their rush becomes lottery and Standing Room like Book of Mormon.

Is Matilda general rush or student rush? I have read contradictory things....
And if student rush... How closely do they look at the student ID? I'm a recent grad but there isn't any date on my student ID.... Not saying I would try to slip by.... But not saying I wouldn't... Ha

This is insane. I imagine they'll have standing room and (hopefully) reserve maybe 15-20 partial view seats for a lottery after opening. The crowds certainly warrant it.

Clearly a rush policy that brings hundreds of people at absurd hours in the morning with no defined number of tickets and constantly changing rules won't last long.

Just an idea, but if you know what date you want to go, I would suggest going to the box office and buying the $37 balcony seats. They're only ten bucks more than rush, you don't have to worry about being shut out, you don't have to line up at the crack of dawn, and the view from up there is wonderful. And, of course, if you buy them at the box office you avoid that ridiculous $10-$15 surcharge that Telecharge adds to your order.

Wicked has a point...especially since if you get up at the crack of dawn, you'll need to be alert when this show ends at nearly 11 pm! Unless you have the time and place to nap in the afternoon, it sounds like the balcony is way preferable.

I work a block away from the box office so I checked in to see how many student rush they had this morning and they had none again. I really don't feel badly for the people waiting till since 5am. Hopefully, they will wisen up and stop waiting. The box office person told me there really isn't a set policy and that it changed day to day. It seems like the show isn't setting aside rush tickets so there's no point in camping out.

To me, the thing that's wrong is not having a set policy. If they want to not offer rush, that's totally cool, but at least say that so people don't waste their time sitting outside in the cold for no reason.

Personally, I'm of the belief that if your rush is "best avail" and will not be offered every day, it makes much more sense to sell the seats half hour to curtain like Roundabout often does so no one is camping out anywhere at 5am when tickets may not even be available.

EDIT: Also, selling "best avail" rush closer to curtain gives the show a more realistic sense of what seats are left.

It can't be said enough, but if you want to see this show, buy the balcony seats. I feel after the show opens they will most certainly not be $37. The view is great, you won't miss anything. This rush doesn't seem worth even bothering with.

Where are the $37 tickets? The cheapest are $45 that I can find. Their in the last row of the Balcony I believe.

Once the show starts, the Balcony seats are supposed to drop to $32 actually. I saw this at the box office and Telecharge.

I believe they should NOT have a rush policy if it is this messed up. Yes, rush is a privilege, but if you're going to have one, HAVE ONE regularly or consistently, and not "if we have it." I hope they re-think the rush, and start setting aside seats for a rush or a lotto come opening. Too many people want to see this show, and many won't because of this messed up policy.

The balcony seats in rows E-J are only going to be $32 for Wednesday matinees. They are $37 for weekday evenings, $42 on Fridays, and $47 on Saturdays and Sundays.

I see on their facebook page they announced rush will return on Monday. Do we know at all how many they expect to have, and when would be an appropriate time to line up?

Telecharge lists about less than a dozen tickets left for tomorrows performance, ALL of them being singles. Unless they pulled certain seats for rush, I would say rushing tomorrow is NOT a good idea. And yeah, quite literally, go line up soon. This is insanity. Im waiting until after they open for them to hopefully refigure the situation and announce new policies (either lotto/standing room or a crazy rush like Once)
