MOTOWN just aired a national TV commercial (jointly with Chrysler). Berry Gordy was in it. It aired around 12:30am during the SNL re-run on NBC. I knew the commercial was filmed, but had no idea it was for the national market. Usually, commercials for Broadway shows play only in local markets in the NYC-Metro area.
When was the last time a Broadway show had a national commercial? Didn't CATS have one?
This is a clever move- preemptive marketing to make Motown the new "tourist show." Will it work? Will "Motown" live up to the hype? Who knows, honestly- but advertising the show before there even IS a show will surely have some effect on its success.
Apparently MOTOWN re-aired their Chrystler tie-in commercial, again nationwide. I think during THE BACHELOR? People keep tweeting about seeing it just now.
