True words these:

Ralphie's need for an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle just isn't as funny this year.

It's a BB gun. You should be able to separate a movie/musical about a boy who wants a BB gun and a tragic event that happened with a crazy guy who shot up a school with high powered automatic guns.

I can separate the two and still manage to think "Hey, it's really something that one of our most culturally beloved Christmas stories involves a kid wanting a gun." Correlation not causation, blah blah blah gun culture whatever.

Although wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where the worst a gun could do is shoot your eye out?

I hope Mrs. Shields is hiding a Glock under her desk in case Ralphie decides to bring that thing to school!

This was never a big family favorite in my house. We favored "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear" with Mickey Rooney and Scott Grimes.

For some reason, I always found this movie very depressing. Not funny or heartwarming at all.

I never liked the movie, but I thought the musical version was delightful. Just a joyful evening at the theater.
