One of my favorite performers and would love to see her back on Broadway. I thought she was thrilling in For Colored Girls and think she'd make a fantastic Sarah in Ragtime
Saw her this season on Elementary, as an old friend of Watson (Lucy Liu). I think she works quite a bit on tv, but yes, we miss her glorious voice on Broadway.
Ms. Rose's career is quite active in both television and motion pictures as I type this.
As of right now, she has 2 (two) motion pictures coming out in 2013: AS COOL AS I AM with Claire Danes and James Marsden and HALF OF A YELLOW SUN with Thandie Newton.
On television this year alone she not only voiced the character of Rita LaFleur on an episode of THE SIMPSONS, but she's also appeared on ELEMENTARY and SKYLER as well as had a 5-episode arc on PRIVATE PRACTICE and had a 14-episode arc on THE GOOD WIFE.
She's FAR from being off-the-radar, quite frankly.
People on this board have mentioned that she often turns down offers to do Broadway/Off-Broadway shows that she's been attached to. I want her to do a musical again so badly. Wasn't she attached to the recent revival of ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER at one point or am I making that up? (Clearly she dodged a bullet there). She's someone who should be a much bigger name in film/TV, but I'm glad she gets work so often.
Let's face it, once you're a person of color and you get a toehold in Hollywood, you gotta ride that ride for every penny it's worth. Broadway may be a little dimmer for it, but she's got a great thing going for her out there.
(And she's managed to do it without doing a Tyler Perry movie.)
Yes, I'm embarrassed to admit I watch PRIVATE PRACTICE, but she was quite good playing a with with bi-polar disorder during her 5 episodes.
And for the record, when I met her briefly last year, she stopped to give me an autograph for my granddaughter even as her assistant was telling her she was late for an audition.
I'm actually quite shocked that Rose hasn't done a pilot for a formal series over the last few years, with the exception of THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY. She's done so much episodic work on so many high profile shows that you'd think a network would have snatched her up for a new series by now. I wait to see that she's finally doing something every pilot season, and yet she never does.
I don't know if she's hesitant to be locked into a series on a regular basis or if the right project just has yet to come along, but if anyone deserves something built around their talents on a major platform, it's her.

You ARE aware that tons of pilots are filmed each season but only a few even get green lit for a 6-episode consideration and even less get actually picked-up to air on television. Countless Broadway actors have posted online about them getting jobs for a TV series which only get as far as getting a pilot filmed and it dies there.
I'm sure Anike Noni Rose has filmed several pilots that found this D.O.A. fate, unfortunately.
I know exactly what pilot season is and exactly how it works, and no, Anika has not ever done a pilot (as I said) outside of THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY.
