I am coming to NYC for a quick trip this weekend. I originally wanted to see The Anarchist, but after the reading the reviews decided to pass. Then I was going to see The Heiress and Bare, but reviews for The Heiress were lukewarm at best and they were pretty brutal for Bare. I have never seen these shows before, so I can't compare them to the Cherry Jones revival or the original of Bare.
Can you recommend any other shows or should I stick with these too. I am also interested in The Other Place and Grace.
War Horse is fabulous. Would definitely reccomend it. A Christmas Story is a fun night at the theatre, but not the best show around. Haven't seen it, but have heard great things about The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Cannot recommend "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" enough. It's honestly my favorite production of a show I've seen in years. The revisions to the script are tight and clever, the cast is incredible and in fantastic voice, and the mood at the theatre is always rowdy and fun. I can't imagine leaving without having had a blast.
War Horse is nothing but a 2.5 hour drag through the mud. Haven't seen it yet, but Metcalf is apparently giving REALNESS in The Other Place. Also have you thought about "Virginia Woolf?"
I second Virginia Woolf. Also, I highly recommend The Heiress despite the reviews. Off-Broadway, The Whale is amazingly good (both the script and the performance).
