I was curious what new musicals will be opening or be in previews by late April. Thanks.

Everything has to be OPEN by late April to be eligible for the Tony Awards. (So almost nothing begins previews in May.

Playbill.com has a great list, but off the top of my head:

Diner (supposedly))
Hands on a Hard Body
Motown
Cinderella

Maybe "Rebecca" will finally open. I hope so -- I've been looking forward to it, and even had tickets.

and considering that Scandalous & Chaplin were flops, my bets for the four Tony nominated new musicals will be: Matilda, Hands On A Hardbody, Kinky Boots & Cinderella.

They have just met once for this season, and of course they didn't decide on Cinderella. Not until after it opens.

It is most likely to be considered a revival.

I would put good money on Cinderella being a revival, but the book being eligible for best book.

I would be shocked if the committee deems it eligible as a new musical. The show has had too many major productions onstage, including being seen in NYC in several forms, for it to be considered a new musical, even with the heavily revised book and an expanded tune stack.
