Um, do you mean why did it take so long to make a movie? Or are you asking why there isn't one being made at all? If the latter, you'll be pleasantly surprised -- Les Miserables, starring Hugh Jackman, will be released on Christmas.

I'm still hoping that they'll make a movie version of Hello Dolly with Carol Channing. Also Gypsy with Ethel Merman (but maybe she's too old to do it.)
