Matt Doyle has the distinction of appearing in both the Best Play of 2011 and the Best Musical. Just wondering, has any other actor achieved something similar?

Can't think of others off the top of my head, but I don't see what's so special about it. Sure it's cool, but a stellar accomplishment? A stellar accomplishment is Jan Maxwell being nominated for two Tonys in one season.

Not quite the same, but Brian F.O'Byrne appeared in both Best Play at the Tonys (Doubt) and Best Picture at the Oscars (Million Dollar Baby) in 2005. I don't know if that constitutes "stellar".

Judi Dench picked up both Best Actress in a Play and Best Actress in a Musical at the Oliviers in 1996 for Absolute Hell and A Little Night Music respectively.

Well he's not accomplishing anything. It's not as though he went out attempting this and his labors were rewarded. No, he happened to be in War Horse and now he happens to be in Book of Mormon.

Sally, I agree with you. It is a significant achievement for someone to appear in a Best Play and Best Musical. Some people in here will nitpick to the extreme. from RC in Austin, Texas

Visiting New York City for the seventh time from June 7-10, 2013. Shows I'll be seeing: Friday, June 7th: "Chicago", Saturday, June 8th @ 2pm: "The Nance", "Pippin": 8pm and Sunday, June 9th: "Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike": 2pm.
