"David Hasselhoff for King role in LCT's projected "King and I"
Posted by: Indavidzopinion 08:29 pm EST 11/07/12 On a chain below, I started reminiscing about the casting of Rudolf Nureyev in "The King and I." The production never came to NYC, but, I think that, in the tradition of casting people who are beyond their peak performance years in this thankless role, the people who put together projects at LCT ought to consider giving the part to David Hasselhoff. Although I have never seen him in a theatrical production, I'm aware that he has done musicals ("Hairspray?" Vegas?). With Kelly O'Hara already shoo-winned in the part of Anna, and Barton Shere, whom a goodly portion of the ATC readerhip deplores, slated to direct, the production needs something to lift it beyond the role of the predictable. Now all we need is a costume designer who will obliterate the image of that big purple dress that Gertrude Lawrence wore in the play and was buried in, when she died."
