I have never understood why people shout about how all shows should stay open (regardless of quality) so that a small number of people will stay employed. As if there isn't always another show. As if no other show would want the Neil Simon.
The OP didn't say "I hope it closes" he was asking "how long do you think". Let's be honest, the show is a disaster to most that have seen it, but is there enough interest or word of mouth anywhere by us non-theatre folks to give it any chance of lasting? We're near the holiday season, could it make it to New Year's?
I didn't see anyone hoping or wishing either. The OP is a realist: it's not very good, and neither are sales (from what we know.)
I NEVER want substandard productions on b'way. It's hard enough to get people interested in seeing live theater, we don't want to send them away unsatisfied when we DO get them there.
Wanting a bad show to close so that talented people can move on to better projects is not the same thing as hoping two hundred people get fired from their jobs and end up selling their asses on the street for a couple of dollars.
And the people who scream about it, know this. They just feel they're being morally superior by stating it over and over again.
"What I don't understand is why people WANT shows to close? Wouldn't you rather people STAY EMPLOYED?!"
What I don't understand is people joining the board just to defend their show. It's more than a little transparent and it would be nice if just once someone who was doing it would just own up to it. How hard would that be?
What I don't understand is how asking if a show might close based on deductive reasoning is the same thing as wanting a show to close. Or adding a question mark to the end of a sentence that isn't a question?
Defending my show? Haha... If It were my show at least I'd have a Broadway credit to my name. But I didn't join the board to coment on this one.. it was another one I commented on
Just about as long as Leap of Faith. Who knows it might flop and close early but there's a great chance it might get a cast recording. Especially, if Ms. Gifford has her way.
