"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
I have this production of OUR TOWN in my video library... Phenomenal.
At this point in her life, I imagine she has graduated into the character actor category. Perhaps she could play Dolly Levi in a revival of The Matchmaker, Aunt Abby, or Aunt Martha in Arsenic and old Lace, Maybe even Big Momma in Cat on a Hot TinRoof?
"I think Glee is way too sharp, smart, witty, clever and emotionally confronting for the masses." - Dave19 -
"What's next? Snow Black and the 7 Swaggers? Shasquirta and the Beast? 101 Weavematians?
Willis in Ghettoland?" - Dave19, in reference to the new ANNIE remake.
That OUR TOWN was so deeply affecting, mostly due to her performance and Eric Stolz's flawless George Gibbs.
Funny: when Cromer's SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH was first announced (back when Kidman was attached to star) I remember thinking how much I'd love to see Miller as Alexandra del Lago.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Absolutely!! I also saw Helen Hunt as Emily and she was just as wonderful. My reaction to the Paul Newman revival was, "how could you mess up Our Town??" That production didn't move me one bit. If anything it left me very disappointed.
Back to the LCT revival. There aren't many Playbills that I've kept over the years, but I still have that one.
Hey Dottie!
Did your colleagues enjoy the cake even though your cat decided to sit on it? ~GuyfromGermany
