It has often been said {and written} that a person's vote for a incumbent should be based on what he or she believes that candidate has done to benefit them personally. Well, for the first time in my 49 years on this planet I can honestly state that I personally benefited from the actions of President Barack Obama. Because of him I am a official HAMPster. It may
have taken two and one-half years along with a lot of blood, sweat and tears {well maybe not blood unless you include paper cuts} but the effort required to jump through every financial hoop possible proved to be more than worth it in the end. The interest rate on my mortgage is now the same or similar
to what is being offered on the refinance market today. In full disclosure I supported Hilary Clinton for the Democratic Nomination back in 2008 and became somewhat disillusioned and embittered by her defeat. Still in all President Obama has done very well in staying the course of our economy all the while being gridlocked by a party that offers no alternative ideas of
it's own.

As for Mr. Romney; he appears to be the "Dagwood Bumstead" of American politics. One pratfall after another leads me to believe that this is the last person we need in the White House. As the old adage instructs "think before you speak." Mr. Romney’s over reactive quips demonstrate a pattern of
someone who clearly has not thought the issues through but rather views public service as a business; something to be tinkered with until the right outcome is achieved and then on to the next issue at hand. I can recall Nixon admonishing Reagan’s “war on the poor” as too severe even for his standards. Mr. Romney’s policies will be far worse and drive this country even deeper into division than even the rich are willing to risk.

This election is about a definite choice between someone who represents the few who have never had it so good and someone who represents the many that know we can {and will} do better. His name is Barack Obama and he deserves another four years.

Well said, indeed. And I would add the extension of unemployment benefits during the worst recession since the 1930s AND the elimination of Don't Ask/Don't Tell.

I'm not always pleased with his conciliatory approach toward opponents who have no interest in compromise, but there are a number of reasons why Barack Obama has earned another vote from me.

I agree, well said.

Not to thread jack, but just curious if a republican had written a well said post about Romney who had just joined the boards today wouldn't we all be calling him/her a Troll?

Now I am as liberal as they get but I'm just saying.... You could argue though that no republican on this forum would write anything this eloquent.

I'm sure some would.

But I'd love a well-reasoned, non-trolling explanation of a person's support of Romney. I haven't heard one yet.

I haven't either, on BWW. My Uncle is a Poli-Sci professor at U of M and Eastern Michigan and is a hardcore Republican. Trying to have a political discussion with him is as hard as it gets because I am the one who looks ignorant talking with him and can never win a discussion.

A smart republican is a scary thing.... he actually told me not to vote saying " The best kind of DUMBocrat is one who doesn't vote".

I would LOVE a passionate, educated Republican to join the boards. I think it's very important to have one's beliefs challenged to make you consider the foundations of those beliefs. I love when someone makes a post I disagree with and I have to look, think, evaluate and consider. I am desperately trying to find a Romney advocate to argue with. Really. I live in a very Republican area but all I get is "(Shrug) He's better than Obama."

The Salt Lake Tribune endorses Barack Obama in an editorial titled "Too Many Mitts."

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/opinion/55019844-82/romney-obama-state-president.html.csp

----------

In considering which candidate to endorse, The Salt Lake Tribune editorial board had hoped that Romney would exhibit the same talents for organization, pragmatic problem solving and inspired leadership that he displayed here more than a decade ago. Instead, we have watched him morph into a friend of the far right, then tack toward the center with breathtaking aplomb. Through a pair of presidential debates, Romney’s domestic agenda remains bereft of detail and worthy of mistrust.

Therefore, our endorsement must go to the incumbent, a competent leader who, against tough odds, has guided the country through catastrophe and set a course that, while rocky, is pointing toward a brighter day. The president has earned a second term. Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first.

I'm happy for the Salt Lake Tribune's endorsement, but if anyone in on the staff of that paper had a shred of show queen in him or her, they would have changed the title of that editorial fro, "Too Many Mitts" to "Too Many Romneys" so that Barbara Cook could have sung it.

I am happy for the original poster who has been positively affected by Obama, but personally I don't know many people who are better off now than they were nearly 4 years ago. Gas prices are exponentially higher now than they were in 2009 when he took office, reaching over $5/gallon in some places, and the unemployment rate is higher than ever, despite what Obama is telling people.
In my state the unemployment rate went from being around 8% in 2008 to almost 11% now. People I know who own small businesses are barely able to afford to stay in business because their taxes have gone up so much the last few years.

There are also more people on food stamps now than there have ever been and it continues to rise.

I am a recent college graduate and having a really tough time finding a full time job because of this, much less a job in my field.

Because of Obama your parents can keep you on their insurance. These Obama haters really are either stupid or very very selective on what they cherry pick to believe. I'll bet you $10,000 that you will be bitching non stop if Romney wins. You'll either blame Obama or ignore the damage Romney causes.Unless you are in the very rich class, Romney could care less about you........and you are gonna help by voting for him.

My guess is you have no idea what Obama's accomplishments are. My guess is you get your news from Fox or some right leaning news source which is hardly fair or balance. My guess is if you REALLY knew what kind of man Romney is, you would not vote for him. However, you have a very ignorant' Anyone but Obama' mentality. Mitt has changed his position on every issue. Obama has not.Mitt is LYING non stop. Mitt is trying to take credit for the things Obama has done(killing Bin Laden and saving GM,something you don't think is that big of a deal)

You ignore how bad the economy was when Obama took office. You ignore that both sides said 4 years would not be enough time to turn things around. You ignore that Romney would go back to policies that destroyed the economy 4 years ago. You ignore all the good Obama has done. You honestly feel Bush and the Republicans deserve no blame or fault for their actions. You ignore the FACT that Bush LIED us into a war. That has put an incredible debt on your back and your children's backs. You morons are OK with paying for Bush's war. You are fine with the FACT you were lied to. However, when it comes to health care for all and Obama, you suddenly seem to care about debt and money. WHERE THE F*** WERE YOU DURING THE IRAQ WAR AND THE BUSH YEARS YOU IDIOT!? Nothing more than brain dead hypocrites!

You come off as a dumb kid. You don't know the facts. You spew one side and ignore the other. Why anyone wastes such time with an idiot is beyond me. I however am going to call you out on your lies. Learn something for Christs sake and turn off FOX NEWS!

Okay, I am pretty certain when Abby last posted her age was a little younger than college graduate, or at least gave me the impression she was younger than my age.

Abby, your complaints effect the state-level as much as the federal level, particularly small businesses. And you are flat-out lying about the unemployment rate. It is returning down to levels he entered office.

I also am in a similar situation if you are telling the truth. But I got to ask, without getting into personal details about your field or experiences to get an entry-level position: Have you gone to job fairs? Have you taken civil service examinations? Have you gotten your name into the system of your state DOL to help you find a job? Because I have done those things.

And please tell me how unemployment rates are higher, from the chart you posted, from the day Obama took office compared today. He took office on January 20th, 2009. At worst, the rates are the same - if you use February 2009 numbers, they are actually lower today than when he took office.

Obama rejected the Keystone XL pipeline because it was not "green", but it would have lowered gas prices in the US, but since the environmentalist groups give a lot of money to his campaign, he needs to keep them happy.

Abby, what about the other stuff? Explain or shut up. I also remember you saying you were in high school. It was just a few weeks ago and I even think I know which thread it was. Come clean. You've already been caught lying with your Obama claims.

At least I have an education, from the way most of you speak I'm surprised you were even able to graduate high school.

I never said I was in high school, you guys were the ones who assumed I was in high school, you can go back and check, but I never said that. Check your facts.

And once again, I'm a troll because I have different views. I'm on a political thread expressing my political opinions. The original poster joined less than a week ago, but has your views, so they're not a troll, but when I come on here but have different views, I'm a troll. That makes a lot of sense.

And what "other stuff" do you mean? I already posted a link to the unemployment rates, the gas prices are higher, you can't debate that, it's just a fact.

Because of Obama, my parents health care rates have gone through the roof because we're not part of "Obamacare" and don't live on the government like so many people do today because it's easier than making a living and paying for their own food and health care.

And if you read the chart, the unemployment rate is higher now than any of the years Bush was in office, is that Bush's fault too?

You do realize that Obama was sworn in on January 20, 2009?

At worst, the unemployment rate is the same as when he took office. If you factor the the first full month Obama was in office (which, would be February, 2009), the rate is now lower.
