It's really annoying. There are as many as 8 spam messages clogging up the first page at any given time. And they don't seem to get taken down quickly.
I wonder who employs the spammers. Since they all seem to be about TV shows (or at least the few I've clicked on were), is there a way to object to the networks?
We used to talk about having a two week cooling off period for new members, meaning that you couldn't post anything for two weeks after you created your account. Although that is probably something that would affect spammers more than trolls (although either could just create accounts and then have them lying in wait for two weeks or longer, I guess, but that seems a titch sociopathic).
Do people report the spammers to the mods when they appear? I don't, because I've never had a very cordial relationship with the mods, but if other people do, they might disappear faster.
I never clicked on any of them either. I don't understand the point of them as most shows you can now watch either on the actual network online or sites like Hulu and such.
We've been actively working on this with the authorities and ourselves. The 'problem' is that it's low-cost foreign labor doing the posting whereas most automated anti-spam systems are designed for blocking computers, not poorly paid people. Annoying!
Thanks for the answer as far as Spammers Rob but what about new members having to be approved? That would cut down on both the Spammers and people who post and have conversations with themselves. :)
