Thoughts on the 'Bring It On' OBCR

I've just gone through the soundtrack, and I just wanted to hear other people's opinions on the songs.

The show's soundtrack. The full one. So I also saw the show, back in August. I really enjoyed the show, but at the time, other than a few songs and smart LMM lyrics I didn't really think much of the music. Now that I have the recording I feel like it's one of the most solid soundtracks I have. Yes, I'm young and I do obviously prefer the modern sound of the show, but every song is worth listening to. Some cheesy lyrics, yes. But I find that the melodies are really exciting and moving, as you would expect from LMM and TK. Plus, obviously the lyrics some of which are smart and funny, which you don't catch when you see the show.

We don't discuss "soundtracks" here. This is a THEATER message board!

Thank you very much.

Just to be clear so that no one else gets all annoyed at me: I do mean the Original Broadway Cast Recrding of Bring It On that it running in the St. James theatre. The recording was released about two weeks ago, and all I want to know what people thought of it. You know, the OBCR. Of a show. Called Bring It On.

I really love the cast album. I was dying for a full recording of the score, and I'm really happy with it.

I think everyone sounds really great, and the score translates well to the cast album. My only gripe is I wish they'd included the little interlude between Campbell and Steven about how they make each other happy as well as some of the smaller reprises.

Yeah, I was also bummed about not having the 'Fluffy Ponies' bit...

I heard in passing several things were recorded but not on the digital download, perhaps they'll be included on the actual CD as bonus tracks.

I love the album, I love the show. I think the show is a gem. I think its a sleeper gem, actually. I think that some people can't let certain kinds of theatre entertain them. Some people just aren't ever going to like a Bring it On: the musical, no matter what. I thought I would hate the show, it looks like a fluffy trite little thing; but I was blown away. I thought the music was interesting, I thought the sound was amazing, I find myself constantly humming the tunes, but you know what? I actually think the album feels a little hollow. Maybe it just isn't living up to my great experience of seeing Bring it On and being surprised, but it just doesn't feel like it has a lot of...I don't know what. Funk? It just sounds very mechanical. I love the album still, I'll listen to it, but I was a little let down, honestly.

And don't sweat the people who make you call it "Original Cast Recording," there are about 200 people on the planet who care, and 195 of them are on this message board. The rest of the planet just uses the two phrases interchangeably, like sensible people. Of course there is a difference between an Original Cast Recording and a Soundtrack. I'm sure that people are just lining up to explain it. But the truth is, it doesn't matter. Musicians and Singers don't care what you call it, they just want you to buy it. Only fans care what you call it.

IndustrialSharpie -- well said. ALL of it. I saw the show both in LA and on Broadway, loved it both times. But I can't imagine listening to the music without seeing the amazing athleticism of the show happening, so I won't. But I think it's highly underrated (then again, I really liked Lysistrata Jones, maybe I just have a thing for cheerleaders)
