Jordan, this whole --- "Jake thing" --- let's calls it, has made us question your sanity. Now, this -- "Kevin James thing" -- has made us question your eyesight, and general...taste in men. OK I said it Several of us on this board have discussed your condition. An intervention may be needed.
I've had a hard time taking David Cote seriously since his high praise of the idiotic bloated over-produced travesty CORAM BOY. Cote giving 5 stars to the bloated over-produced cliche fest IF THERE IS I HAVEN'T FOUND IT YET.
Remember -- if it's British, it must be brilliant.
Spectacular, yes, it was eye-filling with big sets and turntables and a big piece of Saran Wrap to simulate the ocean, in that over-produced craptastic British spectacle kind of way. Vile play in pretty much every other way, though, I was in agony throughout most of it.
CORAM BOY is one of my favorite productions from the past five years. One of the most memorable, too. When one asks what were my favorite plays, this usually springs to mind first (along with GOOD PEOPLE, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, JERUSALEM, and THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE.
Regardless of everyone's individual opinions of shows, there's no denying that Time Out has been handing out more 5-star reviews than they used to. In both in the Theatre and Movies section. In the latter it seems like every week whatever old movie is opening at the Film Forum with a new print gets 5 stars.
I love Time Out though. They really do their best to cover things from Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway. I'll definitely continue to read, even if I'll be a little more suspicious of the 5-star reviews.
