Often when someone appears miscast, it is because they have not been typecast. If anyone had suggested Emily Mortimer as MacKenzie MacHale in The Newsroom, I would have said that's miscasting. The woman is giving the performance of her life. In subjunctive retro, the truth is that I simply wouldn't have had the imagination, based on what I've seen her do, to envision her playing that part. But playing it she is. Brilliantly. McGregor may not seem right for this role based on what he's done before. But when you really think about him, and examine his abilities, there is no reason to think he won't be superb.
