This is exciting. I checked the Arden's new season because I had this feeling that they'll be doing Night Music. And they are. Their Sondheim productions are usually VERY good. SUNDAY was excellent. ASSASSINS was supposedly fantastic too, but it was sold out the day I tried to see it. Sondheim is also a fan of their work. I'm also looking forward to seeing what they'll do with N2N.
I've seen Assassins, Caroline Or Change, and Our Town at the Arden, and all three were fantastic! This is great news, hopefully I'll be able to make it to both of them.
I just got a mailer from them touting Next to Normal, but I was taken aback by how they’ve said it will use “video projections to go into the minds of the characters”…well I made the same face as my avatar.
They do fantastic work. Their Sunday in the Park Chromolume scene was the only one I've ever seen that worked. It was both beautiful and touching. And it was composed of projections and video that incorporated characters from act 1. The audience was transfixed, and burst into enthusiastic applause when it finished.
So don't be alarmed or taken aback. I'd trust their instincts and great taste.
