Who didn't even have to look here to guess who would be listed? Seriously? These are the only three "hispanics-who-can-sing" you could think of? So uninspired.
What about: Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, Romeo Santos, Don Omar, Luis Miguel, Prince Royce? Not to mention, Lin Manuel who would be fun in that rule.
A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.
I don't care as long as they're better and they can remove Ricky Martin's vocals from the recording and replace them... his interpretation of Che ruins the entire recording for me.
Theatre is not just some petty extracurricular activity I do in my spare time. It is my life, it is my passion, it is who I am. Nothing and no one can change that or take it away from me. All the world is MY stage.
Any of these three will have the same pluses and minuses that Ricky Martin has. They're all popular and will draw a crowd. But they'll all smile through the whole show like they're telling the story to children.
Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.
I'm not aware of any acting Enrique Iglesias had done, but both Marc Anthony and Antonio Banderas have played and have gotten positive notices for playing charters that had many of the same elements Che requires. And as mentioned many times before, Antonio basically embodied this revivals characterization of the role when he played Che in the film.
If we're talking about how these men might be directed, well that may be a different matter all together.
No one should replace Ricky Martin. This is a bad production of "Evita" with and without him. I think that this show should close as soon as he is out, so in 10, 15 or 20 years, it could get the revival that it deserves, or the original production could be re-mounted. It has been done with "West Side Story" and "A Chorus Line", among other shows that have been re-mounted (rather than re-invented), due to the brilliance of their original staging.
Lady Gaga would be great but they'd have to change the scenery so that she could wear the Casa Rosada during Don't Cry For Me Argentina.
I heard a few weeks ago about Ricky being out but that the role would be taken over by Max Von Essen. Also that the show might not last after September, but I'm thinking it will last to Christmas. EDIT: Max was listed on Broadwaybox.com as the alternate for Ricky on Monday nights starting Sept. 5.
