so I'm currently working on a My Fair lady production as Mrs. Pearce & was thinking a concert version would be loverly i just would love to see Julie Andrews as Mrs. Pearce & Audra Mcdonald as Eliva since she sings i couldve danced all night at concerts after the current calls Julie could sing the original stuff, just thought of this stuff at rehearsal ha.

...you are aware that Julie Andrews lost 98% of her range during a vocal cord surgery, right?

yes i am, thats why i said pearce she has "performed" numbers of my fair lady at concerts just without the range i'm sure people would pay for her even without the range as pearce she would have one singing line, dont need to be rude

I think she'd be better as Higgins's mama. Fun little cameo part, especially poignant when Eliza goes to see her.

But she's a regal presence. Mrs. Pierce is dowdy. Mrs. Higgins is not.

I think it would be a foolish idea to have Julie Andrews even attempt to give a curtain call "encore" of her old numbers. It would be demeaning to the actress who'd play Eliza in a new staging, but even more demeaning to Dame Andrews, who cannot sing the songs anymore. She's a classy woman and I doubt she'd stoop to such a low.

Didn't Kelli O'Hara just do a concert version of this?
Catch that dirt.

Yeah, I was gonna say that. I think she got good reviews too.

I'd really like to see Lincoln Center Theater do FAIR LADY more than KING AND I. It needs a full orchestra, a good director and an elegant design team, which makes it a poor candidate for the Roundabout to revive. Add in a good cast of fine actors, it's even less of candidate for a commercial producer to revive.

Shocking, but I'd like to see Kate Baldwin as Eliza. I know she's played her relatively recently, and I find her infinitely more charming and appealing than Kelli O'Hara.

I lost a lot of respect for Kate Baldwin when I saw her sing one of Kathie Lee's humiliating "good samaritan" songs on The Today Show. Sure, a job is a job, but you don't see O'Hara or Benanti stooping that low, and they're just as well known and respected in the industry.

As much as I love Kate Baldwin, I'd have to admit that she's definitely not at the same level in the industry as O'Hara or Benanti.

Yeah, I take that back. But she's talented and gets work. Why does she need to be Kathie Lee's singing poodle?

We all make mistakes? I mean, what about Carolee Carmello starring in a Kathie Lee musical?

That's true. Sorry to threadjack, LOL.

But seriously, it's time for a really classy and elegant revival of MY FAIR LADY at the Beaumont.

I would basically like to see every musical (ever) get a large-scale achingly gorgeous revival at the Beaumont. I've spent so much time imagining Shall We Dance? on that huge stage, but it would work wonderfully for My Fair Lady.

Why hasn't this been revived recently? Surely the show itself has appeal.

Higgins: either Kelsey Grammer or John Lithgow (Would Michael Ball be good? Or is his voice too 'good'? I like him. He just seems like he might be a good fit.)
Eliza: Scarlett Strallen (I don't know if she's played the role, but I think she's got the voice), other choices...Laura Benanti could be very charming in the role as well-For A-Lister Hollywood casting-Anne Hathaway
Col. Pickering: I'm stumped.
Mrs. Higgins: It's been said-Julie Andrews-yes, yes, and yes!
Alfie P. Doolittle: Jim Dale or Jim Norton
Freddie: Hadley Frasier or Eddie Redmayne (a lot of this depends on how old they cast Eliza-he shouldn't seem too young opposite her)
Love the Jayne Houdyshell as Mrs. Pearce
