I live in the US and noticed that the current Sweeney Todd recording with Michael Ball is not available in the US to download...and I am not going to spend like up to $30.00 for it...does anyone know where to download it and is it a good recording?
If you're a fan of the show or either star, it's a great investment. It's quite the highlights recording, cutting numbers like 'Poor Thing'. But having seen the production and listened to the recording, buy it.
Other recordings are much better and more complete, though it's not bad as a recording. Yes, you get to hear Michael and Imelda in the lead roles (it's mostly their music on the recording) but you also get to hear Peter Polycarpou's fantastic Beadle Bamford.
Get it to hear the brand new orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick.
I'm suprised that it's not available for digital download in the US. I understand older shows not being available because at the time those distribution contracts were written the digital market didn't exist, or at least not on the scale that it does now. I would think all new recordings would be available for download globally. Most people download thier music these days and a show as popular as Sweeney Todd certainly has international appeal, what's the bennifit of not makeing it available on iTunes? More people would buy it, I would have bought it by now, and the costs of makeing it available online has to be less than the cost of producing a physical CD and shipping it.
Thanks westcoast-wannabe...my thoughts exactly. I just checked Amazon and it's only for a CD order not download. So i was wondering if it was any good before I purchase it.
