I remember him really lighting a fire the GOP two years ago, but was controversial with the old guard (some eco plan that strayed from the typical republican rhetoric, if I recall?). Will he be able to keep heat up the race? I'm not as familiar with him as I should be.
Like Palin, this will incite the far right and the far left. Like Palin, he will overshadow the top of the ticket. Unlike Palin, he's a smart, accomplished public servant (with whom I violently disagree on almost every issue). The Ryan budget will become the focus of the campaign. This should be a losing proposition for the GOP, but they've been very succesful in the past by counting on Americans voting against their own interests.
Creepy is the right word. What was with the ill-fitted suit jacket and the wiping of his forehead with his hand throughout the speech? Personally, I don't think he made a very good first impression. He came off as unpolished. (And as big of a douchebag as Romney.) And I loved how Romney screwed up the introduction by announcing Ryan as the next President of the United States. (Although, to be fair, Obama did the same thing.) After the inevitable initial bounce, once all is said and done, I doubt that Ryan will do much to boost the GOP ticket. He's really kind of a ho hum choice.
He is really creepy looking. Honestly, if we were going by looks alone and my own judgement, he screams the next politician for a sex scandal. That is just my opinion.
Marianne--I thought EXACTLY the same thing. He SO has that squeaky-clean-surface-barely-covering-a-fetid-maelstrom-of-sexual-deviance look. Don't get me wrong--I LOVE that look. But faces like Ryan's usually illustrates newspaper and magazine articles about men whose political careers disappear into a vortex of hookers, drugs and freezers full of body parts.
It's too small for Bill Hader. They'll hire someone to fill Andy's spot, but they might not give him a politician role like this this soon and this close to the election.
If Sudeikis leaves, then Hader will take over Romney.
The last time Ryan was on the scene the media and everyone fawned over him because he exercises! Daily! That must make him hot! Like a middle-aged Eddie Munster!
He gives me the willies. His plans for the nation give me night sweats.

Yeah--I think I read somewhere that they are converting the VP announcement app into a physical fitness app. Ryan is going to post his daily workout, cardio plan and diet, along with occasional fitness tips. Plus some great ideas for keeping your pony healthy when being flown overseas. Private, of course--people who fly their ponies commercial are just beneath contempt.
I know his big thing is cutting entitlements, but what else is in his bag of tricks?
The choice surprises me. Ryan is known for being fiscally oriented as opposed to socially conservative. (Not that isn't a conservative, but in respect to Huckabee or Santorum for example)
I thought that Romney would choose a vocal right winger.
