Mel Stuart, who directed the classic film 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory', passed away due to cancer. RIP Mr. Stuart and thank you for creating such a classic film.
Makes me so sad. My mom had lunch with him one time to talk over details about a TV show, and he was "such a nice man," so she told me.
I was "starstruck" just hearing her tell me, because of his Willy Wonka connection.
It remains one of my favorite childhood movies, and one that I can still watch today and enjoy every bit as much. Although when I was a kid, the satire leading up to the chocolate factory tour wasn't as appealing, but now that I'm older, I think it's the best part!
RIP, Mel. You helped fill my childhood with pure imagination.
