Wow! (and not in a good way!) I'd always been curious about her so I went to see her in Sag Harbor tonight. It is just shocking that she used to be considered a top Broadway star like Bernadette etc. I can't imagine what she'd be like in a show. I guess her voice is still relatively good BUT I've never seen a performer just radiate so much hate and contempt for her audience. She was kind of like a petulant child sneering at everybody and pretending she is better than them. Plus she is so mannered nowadays. Every breath and gesture seems overly thought out and planned like she was doing some kind of Voice 101 exercise.
HUH? Want to back it up a bit and give some examples of the shlt you're throwing at her? Because seeing Betty Buckley in concert or even at Duane Reade is an almost religious experience.
Although I'm not in any way a Buckley groupie, I've seen her in concert twice in recent years, and experienced exactly the opposite as you, biggs. She was gracious and warm and radiated her happiness to be performing. As for mannered delivery — that's Betty Buckley, kid.
I love when people say how much people and things suck and then fail to give examples of why and how they do. First every post by After Eight, and now this.
Betty Buckley could sing "Uncle F*cker" from the South Park movie and it would be an acting and singing tour de force.
I've seen her many many times in concert, and even when I wasn't crazy about some of the song selections or arrangements- Buckley the performer and Buckley the person have always been 100% delightful. She is very giving to her audience and I have a hard time believing anything less.
I'm looking very forward to her next Feinstein's gig in October!
