That video of James is a really great example of why people with outstanding voices but also happen to be completely uninteresting don't work consistently. Comparing it to Melba Moore's performance on the Tony's, sure it's not an acting master class, but at least she was interesting to watch and had something behind her eyes besides, "Now, Morgan belt."
Sondheim's butler. Kind of like fake TV pilot on SEINFELD where the plot is that Jerry gets into a car accident, and the guy who caused the accident doesn't have insurance so he's sentenced to be Jerry's butler.
Well since Morgan James doesn't have any tact or talent, she should be Sondheim's butler since he has both, and is an author of INTO THE WOODS. (When she Tweets about the revival of ANNIE, she can be James Lapine's butler.)
Screechy Gladys Kravitz in the upcoming "Bewitched" musical, with Melanie Griffith and Chris Kattan. Her big number will be, "Somebody's up to something and I'm hash-tag horrified!" There's absolutely no chance this could be her fourth flop.
I just listened to that YouTube of Morgan James singing "Popular," and all I can say is: HOW can you **** up Popular?? I fear musicianship is dead at the Laurie Beechman. And acting, for that matter. #horrified
