I'm moving to New York the first full week of August. What should I really see once I arrive? I'm taking suggestions and I'm open to all shows. Having a really hard time trying to decide what I should see.

First thing, assuming you want to save money, join tdf.org if you're eligible. Second, get on line in Central Park for Into the Woods!

SERIOUSLY GO SEE GHOST. It's closing the 18th. Don't miss it before its gone! You'll regret missing it.

I suggest hitting up the SoHo Playhouse for a production of TRIASSIC PARQ! It closes soon and was a really fun show! Also, it's Off-Broadway and so it's wallet friendly!

Don't feel TOO pressured to cram it all in. You're close enough now to see things when you'd like. Take advantage of lottery, rush, and TDF deals (like mentioned above, if you qualify). You're not tied to cramming in all of your theatre over a long weekend or similar type of trip anymore! That's my two cents, having moved up in March.

I'm going to try to get some Ghost lottery tickets tonight, but if I don't, oh well. I'm not going to pay more than $30 for them!

Peter and the Starcatcher, RENT revival, Bullet for Adolph, get on line for Into the Woods at the Delacorte, Fuerzabruta is fun and The 7th Monarch is good for the performances.

I'd skip the RENT revival. I got tickets from TKTS last Sunday and was very disappointed by the new production. The only thing I enjoyed was the set and "Seasons of Love" soloists. On the whole, the cast is woefully miscast.

Last Sunday RENT had a few understudies go in for principals (Roger among them). I saw the latest cast with all principals and thought they all did a great job.

The Roger understudy is woefully miscast. The principal Mimi looks the part but can't sing or act. The principal Angel is rather butch. So basically, I suffered through the most painful version of RENT ever. The only good to decent moments in the show were "Seasons of Love" and "I'll Cover You (Reprise)." And the "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" is terrible visually. There is no need to have Angel show up in his/her original costume with the pickle tub drum sitting 25 feet above the line that has left his spot open. Can you say overkill!?!?! Also, it takes away the power of the moment when he comes running on again for "FINALE B." I didn't hate the new RENT, but I didn't enjoy it.

And one last thing, there is NEVER an excuse for a production to be poor in quality just because an understudy is on that day. If the understudy can't do the role, then find one who can. People are paying money for an enjoyable experience regardless of who is performing. I hate that some people try to say, well there was an understudy. Yeah... so what? The understudy is still a professional actor, are they not? So, they should be held to the same standards as the principal.

Okay... RANT over.

The Angel we saw was the least effeminate Angel we had ever seen. He spent a lot of time in his lower register and acted manly most of the show.

DEClarke, not sure what show you saw! MJ does not play Angel as butch.

I'm sorry, DEClarke, but the principal Angel sings and speaks in his high register throughout the show. There are two words, which are part of a joke, where he speaks quite low. Otherwise, no.

As a matter of fact, if there's anyone reading this who hasn't seen this production of Rent, I strongly recommend you do, and one of the reasons is not to miss MJ's performance. He is a strong standout and not to be missed.

p.s. He brings down the house nightly.

I agree with Jane. Of course, people are entitled to their opinions. I really enjoy this production. The cast as a whole sing their butts off. I think it really deserved to stay open longer. It closes on Sept. 9th.

if you like really innovative theatre, then I think you'd like Once or Peter and the Starcatcher. They're both very unique and great in different ways.
