Posted this in other thread, never got an answer:

I'm planning on camping out for tomorrow's performance, but I cannot stay past 11:00AM (prior conflict). My friend is willing to swap with me then (I'd wait from 6AM to 11AM, she's wait 11AM to 1PM). We're only getting two tickets, would this be okay? I know there's a policy about saving places in line, but since i'm leaving and she's taking my place, do u think the line monitors would be okay with that?

jag - I think you'll be fine. Just tell the people directly behind you in line when they arrive so they'll know you're not trying to sneak your friend into the line.

As a reference, can those who were on the line today post what time they got there and whether or not they got tickets? Just trying to gauge going in person this week and what time to go.

Also, anyone think they might potentially add a show on Thurs? They added one during the last show and with them canceling Mondays...maybe?

Thanks!

I lost too! FANtom, I'm glad I read your post before I checked my e-mail, or else I would have gotten really excited. Now I know to hold my joy until I actually read the body of the message.

I'm pretty sure what you are planning to do is not permitted. I seem to remember a line monitor saying once that exactly that sort of this was forbidden, but I could be misremembering. The best thing to do would be to ask a staff member when you get to the park. The link below has all of the rules for obtaining tickets in the park.

http://shakespeareinthepark.org/tickets/in-the-park
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I can't imagine that since SOMEONE has been in lline the whole time, that this violates their rules. MY interpretation of what you linked sounds like this:

You can't let ADDITIONAL people into line with you (each getting tickets) and if you leave for 'too long' you might not be allowed back in.

There is nothing about a switch out of people.

I agree with the other posters -- as long as you let the other people behind you (not just IMMEDIATELY behind you) I don't see the problem.

When my dd did sro for BOM, we swapped out several times. I even left for extended time -- but I made sure everyone one knew we were only looking for two tickets in total -- and one of us was always there.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Broadwaybaby086 posted this on another thread but it fits well here:

____________

Hey everyone, I just walked down the line and polled informally and got these stats:

6:30am: water fountain, first big tree w/mulch clearing underneath (this is the spot I aim for, and have never been turned away at this point)
7am: set of benches under complete tree cover, on the slope, before the line switches to the west side of the path
9:15am: rock of no hope

As of 11:50 the end of the line was about 50 yds south of the 86th street transverse.

I was in line today. I got to 81st and Cntrl Park West at 5:45 and there were about 60 people already in line.

Jag, they specifically told us that what you want to do, switch out people, is not allowed. You are also not supposed to leave the park but I don't think that will be a problem. A few people did it this morning to go to the bank. Also, as of today you cannot sit on the grass. We all had to camp out on the pavement. The reason they gave is that they were told that as of today for this show everyone has to sit on the pavement.

There is a guy who comes through arond 9:00 or so renting chairs for 5 bucks. I got one. Glad I did.

Had my tickets by 1:15 and stood over on the side and watched the cast rehearse. Murphy had the hand and crutch thing on. I can't wait to see the entire costume.

I got in line around 6:05, and there were approx. 100 people ahead of me. Got my tickets around 1:30.

Crossing my fingers for next Wednesday. I am planning to come in on Tuesday night, if that ends up being necessary.

Just a question about being out on Central Park West when the park is not open. Are you next to the wall of the park or next to the street? I know it's a weird question, but I guess good for preparing to sit if there is something to lean on or not.

Josh, you were probably right near us. Did you hear two guys talking quite loudly about shows and quoting lines? That wasn't me but is was the two guys with me. One was a co-worker.

Also, if you have never done this. The time seemed to fly by. When you get your tickets, don't bother to ask for a seating chart. They do not provide one to the public due to scalping. There were at least 3 very obvious scalpers in front of us. I noticed that some people were getting tickets from the bottom and those seats were nowhere near the seats from the top pile of tickets. My co-worker and I got seats from the top pile and the other person with us got them from the bottom pile.

Ticket locations are dispensed randomly for this show to discourage scalping more. Being first in line simply means you get a ticket first- not that you have the best available seat.

Tickets for the park are always randomly given out. You just never know.

And for free, people will still complain.

I just want to see it. I'd be willing to sit on the dirty ground just to go. (I don't know if that would be possible since I've never been to the Delecorte. And I am not suggesting that they would let me.)

The Delacorte doesn't have a groundling area, sadly. It's got almost 1900 seats, though.

I am thinking the bottom pile of tickets must be for scalpers. I just found a seating chart and looked at where the guy with us got seats. Not as good as ours. My tickets and my co-workers tickets are next to each other.

Also meant to add that a nearby deli hands out their menu. You can call and they will deliver the food to you in line. They are much cheaper than the Delacorte food being sold.

This morning some people from the New York Times were there passing out the novel "Summerland" by Elin Hilderbrand to everyone in line. Hardback copies.
