Today marks the 7th Anniversary of the opening of The Blonde in Thunderbird!
This show may be a blip in the history of Broadway, but it certainly isn't a blip in my heart.
My friends and I still talk about taking "Inventory" of our feelings and are aware that we all have our "Suitcases of Lies" to carry with us through life.
Please share thoughts and memories if you're so inclined.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
My friends and I were at the first preview. Our tdf seats were in the sixth row left orchestra, and we are still talking about this show today. It was a "so bad it was good" situation. We helped lead the standing ovation at the end of the show...and I got Suzanne Somers to autograph my playbill afterwards. We also got a free hardcover copy of one of her books!
I can't believe it's been that long, it feels like yesterday.
Her joyful embrace of her talent-free camp persona was simultaneously macabre and hilarious. Begging for applause for how good she looked at - what? 60?, singing a dramatic rendition of "If I Only Had A Brain," demonstrating her Thighmaster, oblivious to being upstaged by her video screens - it was a semi-gorgeous train wreck.
Don't forget the amazing "Take Back Your Mink" which was spliced with a story about her father hacking her prom dress to bits (don't worry she sewed it back together and went to the prom anyway!), and her very brave and brilliant "Fifty Percent."
