I think he might well be the worst major-party candidate in my lifetime. McGovern (who lost in a huge massive landslide) was awful but at least his positions had been consistent across his political career. If I ran Obama's campaign I'd be running commercials of Romney saying one thing and then another- pro-abortion, anti-abortion, I'm liberal, I'm conservative- with a caption "Which Romney are YOU voting for?"

If you live in such a red state, you will probably see little attention from either candidate. The folks in states like Florida, Ohio, Virginia, etc will be inundated with campaign ads from August through election day.

I think this will be a close election, mostly due to the voter suppression that has been legislated by the GOP in states like Florida and Pennsylvania. Look for the DOJ to get involved.

Brian- I'm in PA and we've been having non-stop ads from both sides for over a month, and they just keep getting worse and worse.

I can't answer for the larger areas as I live in a really small town (in fact, 5 towns share one voting location, that is how small we are) and everyone knows almost everyone. There were signs up at our polling place for the primaries, but the workers (who have all worked the polls for many years) were laughing about it.

I can definitely see it being a problem in the more populated areas, and it has been covered in news (both tv and newspapers) a great deal. I do know that I've been hearing a lot of anti-Romeny talk in my very Red neighborhood. I really have no idea how it is going to turn out here.

My county has gone Democratic once in the last 150 years. Last cycle there were McCain and "Nobama" signs everywhere. There is a total and noticeable lack of enthusiasm for Romney here.

A Romney adviser admits what was already obvious to all: that Mitt used the NAACP as a political prop:

Another campaign adviser told BuzzFeed that Romney's attendance at the convention wasn't primarily intended to break off a portion of the black vote, but to make clear to moderates that he intends to be an inclusive president.

'I think it's important to send a message that he's going to be president of the entire United States,' said the adviser.

And what better way to prove that he plans to be inclusive ...than treating the NAACP as stockphoto.com.

Just wanted to add that I'm in Ohio this week visiting in-laws - it's incredible how many ads are running on tv already from both sides. It almost seems like there isn't a tv break without political ads - neither side saying anything particularly groundbreaking or interesting.

I'm very glad I live in NJ where no one cares.

According to this evening's Rachel Maddow Show, Romney responded to the booing at the NAACP event. He is reported to have said (and this is a pool report, so keep that in mind): "If they want more free stuff, then tell them to vote for the other guy."

This of ocurse is just further proof that he knew exactly what he was doing at the event, expected to be booed, and was never really interested in what the African-American community had to say to begin with.

Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo made a good point on Twitter that he lost the audience the moment he referred to the ACA as Obamacare. He did not take the audience's issues with the fact over how racially charged the term became during the debate of the bill like those racist emails of Obama photoshopped as an African tribesman.

It is sickening how close these two are in the polls. The very thought of Romney running this country is just terrifying. Is there anything else either candidate can do to swing the odds to one side?
