You'd think people would have better sense, but I've seen such posts for myself. I have an actor friend who posts at least once a week, "I'm so bombed. I'm so drunk." You have to wonder if anyone of importance sees it and says, "nah, let's not take a risk on him."
Just a couple weeks ago, the assistant to the President of my company got caught talkin' smack about his boss on facebook. He posted a status gloating about a deal that fell through, saying it was a stupid deal crushed by ego and inexperience on the part of his boss. Someone fed it to the local paper who put it on the front page of Friday's paper, where it led to TV news stories all weekend. By Monday morning, about a dozen workers had swooped in and completely emptied his office. I live in a "right to fire" state. So there was nothing he could do. Everybody I know immediately went to facebook and removed their employment info.
"I don't know about casting directors but I know for a fact that many many potential employers search candidates FB pages."
I've monitored more than one audition where Facebook has been checked when there's a question about somebody the casting team is unfamiliar with, and yes, some people have indeed lost out on an offer because of what has been found in that person's page.
I have been rather shocked at some of the things my friends post. I've PM'd a few of them saying, "Do you realize those filthy comments you posted on that porn page are all over my wall, and if I can see them, so can everyone else"
One thing funny happened a couple of weeks ago,Straight boy has a bunch of gay and lesbian FB friends and I got an ad to subscribe to "The Seattle Lesbian."
Even I was a lesbian, I don't think I'd want to date a girl from Seattle, it's a bit of a schlep from Brooklyn.
But if your page is set to private, how would a boss see what you've said on it? I don't work outside the home so it's not something I worry about, but I'm just curious.
