The producers of this show must think that if Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Love Never Dies' got mixed to negative reviews in its first showing and made some changes in Australia, they believe that if this went to Australia also, it will be hit too. What they do not relaize however is that this show NEEDS A HUGE REWRITE. It never had potential. Ana Gasteyer and Carolee Carmello were both smart to choose 'The Royal Family' and 'The Addams Family's respectively instead of this mess of a show. I also find the fans of this show to be just as scary as 'Sping Awakening's.
Color this "oddest Australian transfer choice of 2012." Honestly, though, never having seen the show and therefore knowing nothing about how Holland/Dozier/Holland adapted their craft to the musical theater, all I have to add is get a hold of "You Don't Own Me."
Young Frankenstein knew to keep "Puttin' On the Ritz." Ghost knew to keep "Unchained Melody." Shrek eventually saw reason and added "I'm A Believer." Sister Act ditched the Motown score and will close in August.
Don't be Sister Act. Be a good crappy musical, and get the song.
My "love" of FIRST WIVES is merely an ironic appreciation of its complete and total failure. If I had to pick one flop show to take with me to a desert island, this would be it.
