No CON ed will not be ready because they've only been in business since 1823, and, like the MTA, haven't yet figured out how to provide service to the greater Metropolitan area.
But in other news, Bloomberg will announce that snow removal will be 100% effective in all boroughs.
I was laughing as I watched the news this morning. They were encouraging everyone to not wash their clothes or run their air conditioners lower than 72. Obviously they want everyone to be hot and stinky. However, none of the news anchors were making demands on the many office buildings in the city.
I've had the phrases 'Look! A wagon wheel' and 'I hanker for a hunka, I hunker for a hanka' running through my head for nearly 24 hours. Thanks, Namo. Thanks a bunch.
And contra Goth, I can confirm that offices are being asked to reduce energy as much as possible between the hours of 12 and 6. It's always fun working in the dark. Reminds me of The Cock.
"They were encouraging everyone to not wash their clothes or run their air conditioners lower than 72."
And, quite frankly, when it is in the upper 90s you could run your air conditioning at 75 and it would still feel pretty nice. Just remember that a lot of the way we react to temperature is based on a relativity. Hence why when we get that first day in the spring when it gets into the 60s everyone is wearing shorts and ditching jackets, but that same low 60s degree day in the fall after a summer of 90 degree days you see sweatshirts and jeans popping up everywhere.
And I don't think it's too much to ask people to avoid using high energy consuming devices such as washing machines and dryers during the middle of the day in a heatwave.
I think the temperature is also affected by humidity and the cumulative effects of the season. The rather mild week and lack of humidity we had before the 90+ temps arrived helped take some of the edge off this heat.
Here's a fun little site: The Blackout Tracker. Keep tabs on our perilously fragile national electricity grid. It's maintained by Eaton, which makes products that help utilities manage the electric grid, and it shows you where the grid has recently failed, and why.
