So...listening to my new Sweeney Todd recording, I realized this morning through my hangover that the role of Sweeney Todd is EGOT nominated (and almost EGOT won, had Depp won the Oscar...which I think he should have). Hearn won the Emmy, Depp the Golden Globe (then the Oscar nom) and Cariou won the Tony. Is there any other role in theatre, musical or otherwise, that has achieved this?

Once you said Depp should have won the Oscar, I stopped reading.

Anne Bancroft won the Tony and Oscar for Annie Sullivan, and Patty Duke won the Emmy for that role years later.

I think the G in EGOT stands for Grammy, though.

Oh RIGHT! G is for Grammy...Not Golden Globes! Were the rules such that Carious received a Grammy for the Sweeney recording?

Sorry you disagree with me, Billy...but I cannot bear, not for one second, Daniel Day Lewis. I recognize that's my issue...but I'm really not a fan.

To echo previous posts, G is for Grammy, and Depp should not have won the Oscar. End of discussion.

That's funny, Musicaldudepeter, since you are typically do nothing but try to start discussions.

Of the performances of 2007 that I saw (I missed Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises), I thought Depp deserved the award over Clooney, Jones and, especially, Day Lewis. I hated There Will Be Blood with every fiber of my being.

But that being the "end of discussion" is not a fact.

But don't you wish we could close threads?

Even though G is for Grammy (mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa...see what I did there?), aren't the principle singers on Broadway cast recordings considered Grammy nominees? So, say a recording of Sweeney Todd is nominated for show album, the actor singing the role is a nominee as well.

Prior to 2012, "The award was given only to the album producer, and to the composer and lyricist who wrote at least 51% of the music which had not been recorded previously."

Now, however, "Award to the principle vocalist(s) and the album producer(s) of 51% or more playing time of the album. The lyricist(s) and composer(s) of a new score are eligible for an Award if they have written and/or composed a new score which comprises 51% or more playing time of the album."

So, no, Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou are not Grammy winners.

New discussion: Why aren't there more TV musicals? Cinderella, Annie, and Music Man all came out around the same time, then there were some original-musicals, then nothing except teenage Nickolodeon fluff.
