'Speaking of, sandd, there was a point where you used to talk about how you were coming over to see "Carrie Reduced" and how it sounded "amazing", but I can't seem to remember what came of that?'

We moved it when the Extension happened as one of our plays here needed my attention......then they bloody cancelled the extension.

The show doesn't need additional songs. It needs about half an hour of material cut.

"Maybe it will finally get to Broadway" I'm gonna say that's probably not a good idea. Some shows are just suited for off and this is one of them.

I'm assuming it's going into Stage 4, where MDQ is currently playing and Altar Boyz enjoyed a good run.

Although Carrie did not win many awards, it was nominated for a lot, which does count for something. Stafford helped to bring in a new audience to Carrie, and in my opinion beautifully staged these new songs. Carrie now will have a cast recording, as well as is in the process of being licensed to lots of schools and regional theatre's. He made his mark. Carrie may not be the most amazing master piece ever, but Stafford proved that with the right revisions, it is able to be something that people will enjoy.

Stage 1 - RENT
Stage 2 - Gazillion Bubbles Show
Stage 3 - Voca People
Stage 4 - Bullet for Adolf (limted engagement)
Stage 5 - Freud's Last Session

Almost correct, but Stage 3 has Avenue Q. Voca People alternates in stage 2 with Gazillion Bubbles.

"Stafford brought a new audience to CARRIE"
"Stafford proved...it was something people could enjoy"

No, he didn't do either.

Seemed to me the people who went and enjoyed it were the same who always liked it.

He DID cast it very well, hopefully he will do the same for BARE.

From what I know of the casting (or at least from the last read-thru) I'll be curious to see how people react.

Carrie as Ivy?
I could see that.
Andy Mientus of CARRIE also did a reading as Peter.
I could def see that also.

Almost certain it will go into 4. Perfect size and I don't think RENT, or Q are going anywhere soon. They can't do it in 2 or 5.

There's a limited run show going into stage 4 next month. Perhaps the run will be over in time for Bare. We shall see.

Jane2, the article says Bare won't start until 19 Nov, so no worries about overlapping with Woody Harrelson's show, which ends 9 September. As I and uncageg can attest to earlier, it'll for certain go into 4.

How could they go wrong with somebody who has worked on So You Think You Can Dance?

Honestly, his choreography on that show has been brilliant. Wall's participation is about the only thing that would interest me in seeing this show. I hope the revisions are to make it sound less like Rent. I love Rent, but every time I listen to Bare, it sounds like a copycat score.

Voca People will be leaving NYC soon for it's national tour. So that may clear up some space... maybe.

Here's my big question: Additional music by Hartmere and Shankel? Has the score changed again?

My favorite incarnation was the Off-Broadway. The changes made between LA and NYC were needed and I supported most of them. Then they did the concept cast score and that added in the good things from LA and kept the good things from NY, but butchered several of the lyrics in major songs. For example, "feel the beat of my racing heart and you'll understand" to "take a look in these big blue eyes and you'll understand" from YOU & I, "dream a dream, then end another" to "dream a dream, then dash another" from ALL GROWN UP, "Peter: You're such a coward! Jason: Just like you!" to "Peter: You're such a coward! Jason: And you're a fool." from BEST KEPT SECRET, and I'm not even starting on taking all the witty humor out of EPIPHANY.

So... I'm not too optimistic about this new incarnation. I feel that the show is getting further and further from its ability to shine and be loved. I guess only time will tell.

Wait a minute... Missi Pyle as Sister Joan?!?! No Sister Chantelle?

I'm not loving the sound of that!

DE, Voca People shares Stage 2 with The Gazillion Bubble Show. No way " bare" would go in there and I don't think Voca is leaving for a tour. They already have multiple casts and am sure they can pull from them for a tour.

I think it would be a good idea to get rid of Sister Chantelle. The off-broadway portrayal and the studio album portrayal are both very stereotypical/racist. The song that were written for her but her in this spot where it would be hard not to do such a portrayal. She was always my least favourite character.

The character of Sister Chantelle is really one-note and severely underwritten, but "911 Emergency" and "God Don't Make No Trash" are two of the most entertaining songs in the show! It would be a real shame to see them go.

Some of the cast from the 2011 reading were part of the one held last weekend, but others weren't.

I think people who know the show very well are going to meet this new version with mixed reactions. The piece has been very heavily retooled, and almost all of the supporting characters (like Sister Chantelle, now Sister Joan) have been either reconceived or eliminated entirely. This is very much an overhaul of the material.

What I'm most curious about is how heavily Damon Intrabartolo is still involved in this production. It obviously has is blessing, but the fact that Jon Hartmere is writing the new material with Lynne Shankel and not Intrabartolo himself is a somewhat telling sign that he may not be an active part of the artistic team anymore. He was working very consistently orchestrating and conducting major film scores until his legal problems surfaced around 2008, but he seems to have dropped off the radar since then.

I love Shankel's work, so I am optimistic. Arrima and Werle make me nervous. The show really does need numbers LIKE "911! Emergency" and "God Don't Make No Trash", but it doesn't need to be them... I'd hate to see "Trash" go, though I dislike the cast album version. Intrabartolo began to ruin his own material out of spite and stupidity, so I am glad to see others take over.. I am reserving judgement, but sitting front row twice at ATA in 2004 is still something very fresh in my mind and I want to see this show succeed.

I've heard that the role of Nadia is very different than she use to be as well. (Katrina Didrickson was let go before the last reading.)

I'm curious about the changes. While I've emotionally been drawn to Bare, I do think it was overwrought and always felt more like a talented HS kid wrote it -- someone with no perspective on life. I mean really -- could there BE another teen angst issue or stereotype that they didn't include??
