Annie Leibovits Spotlights Shakespeare in the Park, or Who Does Jonathan Groff Think He Is?

Such a darling video and fantastic tribute to the Delacorte and all they do with "Shakespeare in the Park."

Great story by Mandy Patinkin. Blythe Danner and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are completely endearing. Anne Meara has no filter, and that's why we love her.

And then Jonathan Groff appeared. I didn't think it was possible to ooze so much pretension in such a short clip. But, Groff continues to push boundaries in that area.

Perhaps Leibovitz was trying to make some statement by including him. A stain on an otherwise fantastic shot.

EDIT: I know Leibovitz's name is misspelled in the thread title. However, the site won't let me fix the title for some odd reason.

I really enjoyed the clip, it was very cute and reminds me of how much I'd like to see a production of Shakespeare in the Park one day! However, I can't really tell if you're kidding about Jonathan Groff- all he did was smile with Jesse Tyler Ferguson?

Well, last month he thought he was Sutton Foster.

I thought the video was cool, having seen most of those Actors in the Park over the last 40 years.

I don't see anything wrong with Groff, either. He was having a good time, was honored to meet Mandy Patinkin, and was having fun. Any attitude you see is placed there by you.

He is one of the most genuine, humble actors I've ever met.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I didn't see any pretension from Groff. He seemed excited to meet Mandy Patinkin, and then he just kind of smiled.

Please explain what exactly was pretentious about his otherwise brief appearance in the video.

I, too, failed to see the pretension. But what a cute little video.

This crazy ass OP said that Rosoce's distaste for Rob Marshall was just transparent jealously, so I'm assuming that that must be the case here with the OP himself. I guess after FindYourGrail threw himself at Groff and Groff declined, FindYourGrail kind of lost his mind and developed some kind of crazy vendetta. Sad. So sad. And so transparent.

Groff has been extemely nice the two times I have seen him with my wife and daughters. He was very and friendly at the Stage Door exit after seeing Spring Awakening. After I took a picture of him with my daughters, he jokingly told my daughters to take a picture of him with Mom and Dad which they did. - lol . The other time we saw him was months later and he appeared to be heading back stage to visit someone from the cast of "Little Mermaid". My oldest daughter saw him and just said "Hi Jonathan" and then he stopped and talked to us for a couple of minutes and then said he had to get going.

I don't understand how Jonathan Groff was pretenious in the clip either. He's one of the nicest guy from Broadway, I've never heard any bad stories or fan encounters about him ever. And he's been a part of Shakespeare in the Park at least twice, same number of times as Jesse Tyler Ferguson (right?) so I don't see how he doesn't have the right to be a part of the photoshoot... Of course, I do think a small part of the reason Jonathan and Jesse were in the shoot was because it helps with selling to the general audience, they are certainly more Hollywood famous than the others in the picture.

You think they are more Hollywood famous than Meryl Streep? Kevin Kline? James Earl Jones?

Also, the OP hasn't posted in two years and this is what brought it back.

You realize Meryl Streep was in that photo, right?

Willep - maybe not but Groff is fairly famous himself after doing this little show that got huge ratings its first season called "Glee".

Sorry maybe I should have phrase it as the younger general audience. No disrespect to all the other great people in the picture, but if I showed the Vanity Fair picture to my non-broadway friends, they would have immediately point out the guy from Glee and the guy from Modern Family. They might recognize Meryl from Julie&Julia if they saw the movie and Jerry Stiller from Seinfeld but pretty sure they'll have no idea who Kevin Kline or James Earl Jones is.

None of you friends have seen The Llion King, Star Wars, or the Sandlot? Changing subjects, i've found Groff to always appear ver humble.

The Lion King is a cartoon, maybe they'll know the name but not the face. Who was in Star Wars and which one? I don't remember any of them in Star Wars. I've never heard of Sandlot so can't say anything there.

neen2 - James Earl Jones was the voice only of "Darth Vader" in Star Wars".
