I had more fun at this movie than any movie in so long! My face hurts from having a 2 hour smile on it and I'm going again tonight! I wish I didn't have to go home to walk my dog or I'd just stay and see it again right now.
This is exactly what Tom Cruise needed in his career right about now. He's sexy as all hell in it (if you're into the 80's asshole Rock n' Roll) and he's really REALLY funny. He needed to get away from the big budget action roles and become more accessible for a little while and have some fun.
Alec Baldwin is so perfect for that role, it's not even funny. The lines that might come across as really hokey in the hands of another actor really work with him and his relationship with Russell Brand is fantastic.
Yayyyyyyyyyy! I've been looking forward to this for weeks, and I've never even seen the show. Lately I can't seem to get my ass into a cinema for love or money, but I plan to see this this weekend.
I don't have any gaps, and it'll be me and my mom! But the next time after this time?
You know, B. and I almost saw this instead of EVITA when it looked like we weren't going to be able to score tix, but we checked again literally at the last second and found a pair. We both agreed after that we wished we'd have known.
Just got back from watching this with my partner and first of all only me and him and 2 other people were in the whole cinema (oh dear). The film has some fun moments in but it is also way to long, over crammed with music, has no story, huge plot holes and manages to suck the life out of many of the songs (though some were brilliantly done). Alec Baldwin was wasted in this role and had nothing to do other than his rather predictable moment with Brand. Mary J looked like she missed the memo on what kind of film she was in and also had nothing to do. Juliana was great at acting the role and her dance was strong, she has a sweet voice but there is nothing rock about it at all.
Zeta Jones was great in her 2 big numbers and i thought Cruise did well (best moment in the film was his and the Rolling Stone reporter's duet). Russell Brand is trying to do a Birmingham accent and as a Brit i could not stop laughing at how awful it is.
It was shot pretty well and did have some really good moments and a few funny moments, but all in all it was a huge let down. I see why this has divided critics and had more of them leaning towards negative.
Well, folks. We have the first sure candidate for worst movie of the year. Enjoyed the stage version. The movie is lifeless and lacks energy. It felt like scenes were just haphazardly patched together. The two leads are just dull...dull...dull...
Just saw it this afternoon...first off was shocked at how much it differed from the stage show. Enjoyable nonetheless, Tom Cruise definatly steals the show. Also took notice how few people were in attendance! WIll be interesting to see its box office total this weekend.
