Michael McGrath - Anyone see THAT coming?

I was suprised he was even nominated, flabbergasted that he won. Thought Boykin, maybe Young.

Anyone else surprised?

Saw it coming.

Not suprised at all.

I like the word "Boykin".

I was just happy it wasn't Josh Young. That hair. Those pants. That smug face. He makes me uncomfortable.

I still don't think Josh Young makes a good Judas, especially vocally.

Agreed. I was so nervous when I saw him in the THIRD preview. And I was even more nervous for him and his hair last night. His voice is going to be SHOT by the time they close next week.

Actually he was my pick to win.

Honestly? Yes. In addition to being wonderful in the show, he won the Drama Desk and the Outer Critics Circle Awards. Frankly, I'm more surprised he wasn't considered the frontrunner after that.

I think LOTS of people thought he might get it. I know I haven't seen Nice Work yet, and I even guessed it would be McGrath -- coming from all the buzz.

Saw the play, was very good. Not surprised at all.

After seeing him steal NICE WORK out from Kelli & Matt I wasn't going to be shocked if he walked away with it.

I predicted him to win. He is wonderful in Nice Work. And I figured if they were already checking off Judy Kaye, why not vote for her comic counterpart? They play off each other tremendously well. Congrats!

I thought he was great, but didn't think he would win.

Guess I'm in the minority. I thought he was fine, but didn't excel, or had the Tony "oomph" factor. And, for me, relied on a few too many Nathan Lane-isms for me. Wasn't my top choice of the nominees, but happy for him.

I've seen many of Michael's performances through the years and he's been doing "Nathanisms" as long as Nathan has and without even knowing of Nathan.

Really, they're "Michaelisms".

Did you see him in "Cocoanuts" as Groucho Marx? Brilliant.

I was completely surprised! I was really hoping for a Cerveris win on that one...

Did not see it coming.

I was certainly hoping for it since I believe he gave the best performance out of those I saw in that category. His "nathanisms" comments are about as odd as "matthew broderick looks bored" on BWW. Michael is not doing anyone but himself. Talent doesn't have to copy anyone.
