Stop complaining. If they had shows performing during commercial people would bitch about that. It's just like the Grammys, you want more performances so actual awards get the bump. I am sure, that if I was a producer and they said "We can present the category during air time or give you 2 minutes to perform", I'd probably perform.
I'm not sure if someone else who has extensive TONY knowledge can educate us on if the awards that are being given out during commercial are the ones who are usually given out during that time in previous years.
So the preshow will only include the non-competitive awards, Best Book, Orchestrations, and Choreography? And do we know if this will be streamed live online?
It's the Tony AWARDS -- don't you think they should show MOST of the awards??
It sounds as if you'll be able to watch the non-broadcast awards later onthe Tony Award site. It doesn't sound as if they will streamed. Not sure about the preshow.
They're not going to miss any of the big awards, though I would count choreography & book of a musical as big. I'm still not sure about the likes of Ghost and Godspell performing, I'd like to think it was something reserved for the musical & revival nominees. It would be nice if they earned it, not just bought it.
To those who actually watch and care about the Tony Awards, the creative and design categories are in fact very important. And they air every single category at the Academy Awards. It can be done.
I agree wholeheartedly. While I think it is good that some shows that were not nominated are performing, I do not think it is right to bump more awards off the telecast. The Hairspray thing is just ridiculous. The fact that choreography, score and book are not shown really gets under my skin.
Don't you miss the days when the design categories were presented and showcased on PBS? Now the poor designers have to accept awards when everyone takes their potty breaks.
I feel as if the Tonys are kept to a pretty strict schedule by CBS. The ending always feels rushed and I remember more than once the closing number getting pushed into one of those window type screens so the local news could start talking about what's coming up. They certainly don't have the clout of the Oscars who seem to be given a little more leeway to run long.
