Remember when Paul Wontorek interviewed her and she was adamant that she was an incredible Miss Hannigan and that they should cast it properly. She came across so arrogant in that interview, I'm glad they didn't cast her.
Let's get real. She's been in the industry for 40 years. She's got a thick skin. I'm pretty sure she has lost no sleep. She's scrappy and likes to work. She probably don't give a f@#k.
She's looking for her next gig.
It's a shame she's not cast more. I still want to see her as Diana.
Andrea is one of the most down to Earth, funny, professional people I've ever worked with. I'm sure she has an opinion about all this and she is enjoying it and weeding through all the gossip with gusto.
In general, Andrea is either a total dream to work with or an absolute nightmare.
Although perhaps she's changed her approach since I worked with her a decade ago. Which would be great, since she doesn't work nearly as much as her vocal talent would otherwise warrant.
When I worked with her, she was constantly late (like really, really late, so late the producers had to regularly send a car to get her to the theatre an hour after her call time). And that, as they say, is the tip of the iceberg. Behavior that not one person, not even the acting company in "Waiting For Guffman" would consider professional.
Anyone who was on the "Cabaret" tour could tell you stories. Hoo boy!
I hope she's wised up. She does seem to be working more lately, so that makes me think she's taken a step in the right direction.
Considering that Katie Finnernan is no name...and she is a legitimate theater actress she is probably a little upset but not pissed because they just went in a different direction..not a you know what lets pick someone that will bring in money instead of act the role
McArdle couldn't do the role? Oh, please. (and I'm not all that sure McArdle is a box office 'name')
I'm going to guess that replacements might not even be necessary for this production -- with Matilda coming next spring...it is VERY likely going to hurt sales of Annie.
Rememeber....most revivals seem to have a shelf life of about a year.
You never know - I keep saying this (and a few others here) but the original production of Annie was a perfect evening. It's become ubiquitous in schools and community theatres over the years and with the watered down tours and the two terrible movies it's popular to sling mud at the title among the theatre cognoscenti. But I am holding out hope that the new Annie reveals to the doubters how good a show it really is. Anticipating the new production, I went back and read the original script and was struck at how well put together it is, particularly the show's book, which is pretty much an original creation by the great Tom Meehan. If the new production is as well designed, directed and performed as I hope, I could imagine the show hitting all over again. The generation who fell in love with Annie in the 70s and 80s have kids and grandkids of their own and I have to imagine the show's return - in a first class production - will have appeal to them.
I dont know what interview you watched but I dont recall Andrea ever saying she was a "fantastic" Hannigan...I think she said playing the role was Fantastic....anyone I am sure she could care less who plays it on Bway...she is working all over the country doing concerts and other things..trust me she could care less
I find her candor refreshing. It's why I like interviews with her and Patti. They tell you how they feel-and why shouldn't they? I've never worked with her, so I can't speak to that.
I too think she comes off as somewhat desperate in that interview. It's like she's begging for a NYC job. "All my best work is in regional theater"...uhm, yeah...
I find it interesting that James Lapine went a fresh, exciting way in casting Katie Finneran as Hannigan but resorted to the traditional, broad comedienne model in casting her two understudies, Liz McCartney and Jane Blass, both of whom are talented performers but hardly nuanced actors. I imagine it would be relatively jarring to have either of them step in for a performer as versatile as Finneran, who couldn't be further from either in terms of type.
