Winger as Lupone's warden. How can this not be a camp classic?

"A press representative for “The Anarchist” said that Ms. Metcalf had withdrawn due to a scheduling conflict."

I'm starting a rumor (anyone care to join?): Metcalf has withdrawn from the production so she can join David Suchet in the Broadway transfer of West End revival of "Long Day's Journey Into Night."

^ That's what I thought it was anyway.

I hadn't thought about Long Day's Journey. I was thinking it'd be this: http://theater.nytimes.com/2011/03/29/theater/reviews/the-other-place-by-sharr-white-review.html

Maybe she's doing both. In repertory. The Laurie Metcalf Repertory Festival.

Debra Winger in The Anarchist!

In this earlier version of The Anarchist, it looks like Winger's character ends up being protected by LuPone.

Metcalf is shaping up to be next season's Linda Lavin, with her roles going to Amy Ryan (DETROIT) and now Debra Winger.

Debra is a great actress, but she's always seemed like an extremely unpleasant person.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Did anyone else first read the title of this thread as "Debra Winger is the Antichrist"?

Could it be that Winger was extremely unpleasant in her youth and, like a great many people, matured into quite different, perhaps, as millions of her generation did, through better living with anti-anxiety meds?

That's very possible. I enjoyed her screen presence and look forward to see how she does on the stage.

Love Debra Winger.....and glad to see this is happening. I've missed her these last few years. One of my favorite actresses of all time.
