Excited to catch Rachel York in Anything Goes and absolutely THRILLED that Fela! is coming back. I only got to see Fela! once during its LA run and always regretted not getting to go back. I hope we get the same lead actors for Fela and his mother. They were truly sensational.
I'll buy good seats for The Scottsboro Boys and Anything Goes. I'm thinking Hot Tix for the rest. Beyond thinking the Pantages really did get all of the good shows this year, I had always assumed the Scottsboro Boys would be part of the season as a final stop on the San Diego & SF mini tour. I'm surprised it is an LA production. (Although I'm assuming using the other tour's sets, etc)
Very disappointing. I was hoping the Ahmanson would get a decent pre-Broadway show but BACKBEAT?- this is a show that closed early in London. Why do the producers think that this show will be a hit on Broadway?
The press release says of Scottsboro Boys, "Five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman will reprise her direction and choreography for this special engagement presented exclusively at the Ahmanson."
I don't know anything about the show in SD or SF (from what I understand, the two engagements are ongoing?), but this seems to be entirely standalone—especially as it's booked for a year from now.
I mostly surprised/disappointed by Seminar. I didn't think the play itself was great, and I did not enjoy Goldblum's performance.
Horsetears, I don't see any info about the upcoming season except for the Ahmanson's schedule announcement. So weird that they blocked the center theatre group site at your work... You must work with some rabid theater-goers
I think I'm the only one, but I am actually excited for Backbeat. I loved the film and hope it is good. I am happy to see Seminar, too...but less happy that Goldblum is in it. Oh well.
The Taper operates on a calendar year schedule, so they've announced through the end of 2012. After Los Otros (which is playing right now), they'll have Red (Aug 1-Sep 9, with Alfred Molina and Jonathan Groff), November (Sep 26-Nov 4, by David Mamet), and Other Desert Cities (Nov 20-Dec 30, directed by Joe Mantello. Dates may be subject to change—looks like they're going to try to bring as much of the Broadway production to LA as possible, but I don't think it'll be too much of an issue with it closing in a few weeks). Good point about CINDERELLA...wasn't that announced at some point as being part of the 2012-2013 season? I remember reading something that CTG was producing it so maybe I just assumed that ment it was going up at The Ahmanson
Looking forward to SEMINAR actually...word of mouth, at least from what I've heard, was positive. BACKBEAT could be interesting as well - while not exactly forging new ground, conceptually it sounds exciting.
Thrilled that END OF THE RAINBOW with Tracie Bennett is making its way to Los Angeles as well...glad that got sorted.
I would see ANYTHING GOES again - really enjoyed it in NYC
As for FELA - which I caught both in LA and NYC - its fantastic - and as I understand an "additional" show so at least its not part of the series - since it JUST played in LA last year.
All and all a good season
and yes, can't wait for RED and OTHER DESERT CITIES
Are we going to get Evita? It seems to me more of an Ahmanson show than one to play the Pantages. I hope we do get it, and I can't imagine that it wouldn't play LA.
