Apparently Leap of Faith is not performing and Davenport has been pushing for months to have Godspell perform and they said yes because of Leap Of Faith deciding not to pursue the performance slot, interesting to see if it helps them at the box office.
While I don't like a lot of Davenport's tactics -- you've got to hand it to the man, he ain't giving up without a fight. He certainly wins an award for most tenacious!
This has become almost standard practice and doesn't really require much pushing or tenacity. The better question is whether it's worth the cost, but I suppose I'd come out on the yes side on that one.
Have they said what song? I vote for All Good Gifts or Light of the World(since Lindsay is no longer there to do Bless the Lord). Day by Day is the most well-known song, but the other songs are stronger performances.
"And now, from the critically panned, sparsely attended, zero Tony nominated revival Godspell, we have a bunch of over caffeinated twinks singing ...."
^ And why does the show need to close by Labor Day? What harm has this production done to you to warrant that? You are entitled to your opinion of whether you like a show or not, clearly you must not, but saying it needs to close is just not warranted.
I happen to love this show and am very pleased that it will get this opportunity, and the cast will get to perform on the Tony awards and share the joy they have with all those who are open to it.
The poster was referring to the Tony Awards. I'm surprised you weren't able to figure that out.
Seriously, this tiny mistake that people make, which does not in the least impede communication, is not nearly as annoying as all the predictable, insufferable corrections.
Is it your money they are losing? If so, you have every right to insist they close. If not, you don't.
But if you are an investor, you will probably WANT them to stay open through the summer and even into the holiday season if they can. They made a lot of $$ last Christmas.
Point being: you made an idiotic statement all around.
I think it'd be cool if they let like high school/middle school productions perform. Or take some of the Tony nominees to the schools or something. Break up the boring program.
