Not to be in the least pit snarky, have you ever seen so many plays announce an upcoming tour immediately after Tony nominations? So far we have EVITA, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, ONCE, and now END OF THE RAINBOW all going on the road! I do hope they all happen because it would be wonderful for the rest of the country to get all this good theatre, but I'm only slightly skeptical...
What 'give us your Tony votes' shows have announced tours that didn't happen? AVENUE Q I think was the first biggie (after announcing a tour, it instead went to a sitdown in Vegas).
I think there was some rumbling that STREETCAR was going to tour, or at least play select cities. Not sure if that's still happening given the critical reaction, but they should hurry up and announce now if they want any chance of winning that Best Costume Design in a Play Tony Award.
If the reason the Ahmanson still hasn't announced all of its season (beyond Anything Goes and today's announcement of Over the Rainbow) is because it's waiting to work out when these shows can fit in their schedule, that is more than fine by me. Other than Book of Mormon, the Pantages' season doesn't look too promising, so here's hoping the Ahmanson gets some truly stellar shows.
