Independence Day

I am going to be in New York over the week of Independence Day, I understand this is a big day in the American holiday calender, just wondering if they still do shows on Independence Day or is Broadway dark, If so is there less shows that week? Or even better is there more shows that week? Is Broadway like Thanksgiving day that week, where a disproponate amount of people want to see a show on Independence week, so discounts are hard to come by?

Broadway houses are not dark on 4th of July (Independence Day) unless that is their regular off day. July 4 is midweek this year so all shows will open for business.

It is also a big day for New Yorkers/New Jerseyites to head to the beach so you should have no trouble getting tickets to shows (except Book of Mormon & Wicked).

Wednesday is Rock of Ages day off, at least right now, all schedules could change for Summer. The 4th of July would actually be a great theater day since a lot of people like to have picnics, hang out around the pool or beach and jockey for position to watch those fabulous fire works on the Hudson.

Sorry, they start about 9:00PM, go to a matinee so you can see the fireworks. There are also live concerts all kinds of fun things going on. Last year the weather was great. We got up early and claimed our lounge chairs by the pool then grill steaks for dinner and watched the fireworks at 9:00. When they were over, we went inside and there was a replay on TV, we got to see them allover again. Macys are the sponsor and they have 6 barges on the Hudson as a staging area so there is reflection off the water as well as all the glass in the high rise buildings. So cool.

check each shows individual schedule. Most shows are choosing to cancelled their Wednesday night shows and are adding a Thurs. or Fri. matinee.
A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

I have done a bit of research on this and from what I can work out is

Newsie is doing a Tuesday matinee.
The Best Man and Once are the only shows doing the Wednesday evening.
Ghost is doing a Thursday matinee
Jesus Christ Superstar, Porgy and Bess and Peter and the Starcatcher are doing a Friday matinee.

Other shows might be doing extra matinees, haven't checked them all, only the shows I am interested in.
If anyone is thinking of going to Broadway, it is a excellent time go, to catch a lot of theatre.

Wow and from the headline I thought this was the next movie that was going to be turned into a musical. :)
