A few weeks ago there was an e-mail blast from ONCE that offered $35 tickets to anyone under a certain age (30 maybe?). It was only for Wednesday night performances. Did anyone get this? I want to purchase a ticket, but I think I deleted my e-mail and can't find it anywhere.
All sorts of stores have student discounts and discounts for people 65 and over as well, for that matter. Definitely not remarkable or lawsuit worthy for Broadway shows to do this. It's a policy that is helping introduce the awesomeness of live theatre to the younger generation, which in turn will build the audience for musicals and plays in the future. Pretty great idea, if you ask me.
Not being young enough for HipTix, I have often thought about this as being unfair. Why is the assumption that if you over a certain age, your finances are fabulous?
(That being said, I have no problem with student discounts.)
Well put drama. I am not young enough for hiptix and not old enough for a senior discount. Not in school either. It sucks for those of us who can't take advantage of these discounts. Especially now with the economy the way it is. My finances are nowhere near fabulous.
The programs like 30 under 30, Linctix and HipTix are probably all grant-funded, with the hope that they would attract and retain new audiences (and all of that was written into the grant application, I would imagine). It's unfortunate that more theatre companies aren't reaching out to all ages, though.
