Yes, I thought the recent West End production would of had legs to make it to Broadway, with Jonathan Groff a fellow Tony nominated national would of been well received and Simon Russell Beale, who is so admired by Ben Brantley, one of his favorite British actors.
I saw DEATHTRAP several times during its Broadway run. (I was organizing lots of theater parties in those days!) The one thing that stands out is the incredibly mannered performance that Marian Seldes gave--and she never missed a performance! She was taking one stage pose after another and over-reacting to much of the dialogue. I've seen her give much better performances before and since.
I too saw it on stage before the film was released and the audience went berserk when Clifford bursts in at the end of Act I. I was with a woman who was so rattled she refused to go back in for Act II and she waited in the lobby for the rest of us.
