With so many closures this week and others looking vulnerable we need another real estate thread.

With the announced closure of:

Seminar - John Golden
Magic/Bird - Longacre
Leap Of Faith - St James
How To Succeed - Al Hirschfeld

What will be going into the theaters above? what other shows are the vultures circling over Times Square looking at?

Most of them will sadly spend the summer dark, a common phenomenon when shows close toward the end of spring. I think Matilda is transferring in the fall (I might be wrong) and since there don't seem to be any indications that the Winter Garden rumors are panning out it could do well in a more intimate theatre like the Golden. Depending on how its received, Into the Woods could be an early fall transfer.

I think Matilda's transferring in the Spring of 2013. The Golden would be too small for it, I can't see Mamma Mia! moving from the Winter Garden just yet, its grosses have picked up in recent weeks.

I still wonder if War Horse, Mamma Mia & Chicago will move to smaller theaters this fall as previously rumored.

I would venture a guess that Godspell is the next musical to go. And likely soon.

I can't see any of the straight plays last through the summer. Harvey will sap OMTG's tourists.

This whole MAMMIA MIA/WAR HORSE/CHICAGO/KING AND I/MATILDA thing seems a little far-fetched to me. I really couldn't imagine three shows playing musical chairs to accomodate two new productions...

That switcharoo situation happened last season with
Rain moving to the brooks atkinson for CATCHME
ROCK OF AGES moving to the Helen hayes for RAIN
and
LONG SHORT story not extending its run again for ROCK OF AGES

Wonder which theatre Lucky Guy will go to, I'm guessing since it's a Shubert Theatre it'll be either The Schoenfeld or the Barrymore.

Do we know what might be going into these 4 vacant theatres? I know Bring It On is looking/possibly has the St. James.

Bring It On is pleasant, but I'm not sure I'd say it's ready for Broadway. Granted, it may have undergone changes since I've seen it. I will say, the cast is quite talented, but my impression on leaving Lysistrata Jones is that the former show is everything Bring It On wanted to be, but didn't quite achieve.

I can not see Matilda fitting well into the Winter Garden. The stage is wide and short. The current set up in London appears to be a narrow and tall stage with lots of front of house scenery (especially the proscenium). I disagree about Matilda playing a smaller theatre. There is no way it could fit in a space like the Walter Kerr or Golden.
