i got an offer for tickets and it said she wasn't in the show tonight, sorry I was just passing along info from what I thought was a reliable source, via the internet.
No speech tonight (I don't think it's really common to give one the day after the nominations come out). I love this play so much and the performances, no matter who's in the cast, are also fantastic. Elizabeth Marvel and Matthew Risch are a great team as the kids, and for me it was confirmed that Stacy Keach was the biggest snub of the Tony nominations today. It is ridiculous that he didn't get a nod for his stellar work. This show never fails to put me on cloud 9.
I was there tonight with Whizzer. It is no secret that I think OTHER DESERT CITIES is one of the best plays I have ever seen, so I had to be there the day after the nominations were announced.
Risch and Marvel were excellent and, as whizzer mentioned, they worked well together.
Especially with Lansbury's snub, I honestly think this is Judith Light's award to lose. She is outstanding as Silda and nails every single line she has...plus her facial expressions are priceless.
Stacy Keach was truly robbed of a nomination. I think he gave a better performance than all five lead actors nominated. He was on fire tonight and plays a perfect Lyman.
Not only was Stockard Channing in the show tonight, but she proved (as she has all seven times I've seen this show) why she got the across-the-board rave reviews that she so deserved. I cannot imagine anyone else playing Polly Wyeth. "The performance of her career," per the New York Times, and she deserves to win that Tony Award.
I hope Tony voters will see this show again so it is fresh in their minds. I'm hoping for at least three wins for OTHER DESERT CITIES come June 10th. Congrats to all nominated and everyone involved in this brilliant production.
