Angela Lansbury got nominated for all 3 precursor for her performance in The Best Man, but failed to get a Tony Awards nomination over Linda Emond, who was snubbed by every precursor. Has it ever happened before and if yes, is it a common practice?
Not that this answers your question, but is it possible that the Outer Critics and Drama Desk were considered Linda Emond a Leading Actress, and she was shut out of a very crowded race in that category? It's my understanding that they kind of do what they want and don't necessarily follow placement for Tony nominations.
To be honest I'm not sure about Emond's category placement, but her Drama Desk and especially Drama League (with, I'm not mistaken 56 nominees) snubs are very surprising.
