Congratulations to both! Although to be be perfectly honest, I'm getting a little bit confused by all those special and honorary Tony Awards. They seems to have so many of them.
Hugh's recent one-man show earned critics' kudos as well as fan admiration, but unfortunately his performance does not qualify for a TONY award as the show is not a book musical. Great way to honor him not just as an excellent Broadway performer but also for his generosity of time and spirit!
Les Miserables is rumored to wrap filming on June 10 as well - I guess Tom Hooper will have to let his star spend this day with the theatre community
Could this possibly be the Tony Committee's way of honoring Bernadette this season and making it look better for her if they did not nominate her for FOLLIES?
Plaudits aplenty for Hugh and Bernadette. The Tony committee obviously realized they never should have eliminated the Special Theatrical Event category, but of course it was too late to rectify that in time to give Hugh his due. His show was probably the most dazzling one-man entertainment I have ever seen and certainly deserves recognition. And I'll bet he's the largest individual fundraiser ever in the history of BC/EFA. Bernadette's no slouch in that area, either.
