Bryant Park Broadway Concerts

What shows do you think will particpate in this summers concert series? (think the schedule comes out in June) I have only been once and it was lots of fun. Wondering if "Understudys" perform a lot at these concerts since the "Stars" have to perform later that night. Thought it would be cool if the cast of "Smash" participated, great publicity for the show IMO.

VERY often the actual leads perform, but of course, there are defintiely some understudies. Singing a few extra songs several hours before curtain isn't going to put anyone in jeopardy (unless they aren't feeling well or are experiencing vocal strain).


It would not be 'cool' (imho) for Smash to perform -- they aren't on b'way. I would think those that GO to Bryant Park for the b'way shows, already KNOW about Smash.

Most everything will play...except for Leap -- as it won't stay open long enough.

dramamama611 - The time I went saw cast of "9 to 5" and Megan Hilty performed with Alisson Janney and Stephanie Block and it was really good. I know "Smash" is not on Broadway but thought it would be cool if they did the songs from the fictional show at this time called "Bombshell" Guess we just disagree - lol. I will also mention that at this Byrant Park concert there was a performance from "Off" Broadway show "Toxic Avengers" so it is not like everything was a Broadway hit.

I was wondering about lineup because I did not know if long running shows like "Phantom" or "Chicago" for example did these concerts or it was just the more recent shows.

I think they all get 'invited' but it's up to each production (and the schedule) to work it out.

Yes, occasionally, an off b'way show will get in: but still it's promoting live theater. (I'm guessing they had an unfilled spot and jjust wanted to fill it.)
